Global Challenge 2003

The organisers of one of the worlds premier yacht races have chosen Portsmouth to host their next event.

The Global Challenge event, which has previously been hosted by Southampton, will now be based at Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays development.

Sources close to the event suggest that Gunwharf’s success was crucial in their decision to move the prestigious ten-month race, which covers 32,000 miles as it navigates the world’s oceans.

It is known as the toughest yachting event in the world, because participants have to sail the wrong way around the world, against the prevailing winds.
