Portsmouth has once again beaten Southampton to be named as the host of the British leg of the Timberland Euro Prix in June 2005, which confirms the city as one of the most important venues for global sailing events. Organisers now hope that with the addition of the already confirmed Global Challenge and Oki European Challenge races, Portsmouth will finally be placed centre stage with the possibility of hosting such events as the Olympic tournaments if the games come to London in 2012. The Timberland Euro Prix is one of the top five sailing events alongside the likes of the America’s Cup and the round-the-world Volvo Ocean race.
